Instruction Set for Strangers 2024
Our group was assigned to design an interactive installment that engages strangers in an activity without using direct words such as written instructions. Instead, we used various design elements to induce T users to stop and interact. The Northeastern T station (E line) is one of the busiest areas on campus with people constantly waiting, walking, or hanging out in groups. While it's full of activity, we noticed that something is missing: strangers don’t often interact with each other. After brainstorming ways to solve this issue, we decided we want to bring people together with a game. When strangers try to solve the puzzle together, it gives them a reason to chat and share a moment. By conducting multiple rounds of user testing, our group was successful in getting a high number of interactions in such an utilitarian location.

Rottach - Egern 2024
16” x 16” Acrylic on Canvas
A culturally significant Korean card game called Hwatu is often used among the older generation as a betting game. While visiting South Korea, I could recall my grandmother playing a game with Hwatu cards by herself as she watched over my brother and me.
This painting was the first time I explored with combining 2D designs on a representational painting. I used designs from the Hwatu cards to create dynamic movement and balance between positive and negative space
